Save the Date - Science of Team Science Conference
April 22-23, 2010
Northwestern University
Chicago, IL
The Discipline of Team Science promotes team-based research by working closely with investigators to examine the process by which research teams organize themselves. This includes how they think and do their work together to achieve research breakthroughs that would not be attainable by individual or additive efforts. Northwestern's Office of Research Team Support (ORTS) is a champion of this emerging field of study.

NIH-CTSA Forum: Defining the Career Pathway for the Physician-Scientist
January 27, 2010
12:00-4:30 pm
Bethesda Marriott Suites
Bethesda, Maryland
The purpose of the forum is to learn more about what roadblocks clinician investigators are encountering in pursuing clinical research as a career. The joint meeting between the CTSA Education and Training Committee leadership and NIH training representatives will be an important first step to improving the retention of physician-scientists in clinical research.
The NIH-CTSA forum will take place on the first day of the CTSA Strategic Goal Committee #2 meeting and the topics for discussion will include NIH training mechanisms, career pathway decisions, and identifying what academic institutional constraints may limit the ability for physician-scientists to compete successfully for independent funding.

CTSA Industry Forum
February 17-18, 2010
Natcher Conference Center
Bethesda, Maryland
The purpose of the Forum is to explore current practices and successful management models to promote efficient and effective collaboration with the NCRR-funded Clinical Translational Science Awards (CTSA) organizations. The CTSA Public Private Partnership Key Function Committee is planning this forum to serve as the “catalyst“ to find ways to leverage the CTSA consortium to accelerate and streamline the discovery and development of commercially viable therapies, devices and diagnostics that will improve the public health of the nation. This two-day event will bring together stakeholders from NIH, CTSAs, industry, non-profit organizations, other academic institutions and government agencies to discuss:
-
How can NIH’s investment in the CTSA program be leveraged to accelerate the discovery and development of commercially viable therapies and diagnostics?
-
What are the challenges and barriers to improving the productivity and efficiency of commercially meaningful translational research?
-
How can NIH, the CTSA institutions, and private industry and non-profit organizations work together to address the common challenges to collaboration?
